Dottie Moore and her magical quilts

live in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Dottie stitches layers of cloth and images into visual conversations
of earth and sky. Since May 1996, she has been collecting stories from
women over fifty; their stories have become an artwork in themselves,
a rich collection of creative wisdom that Dottie calls Piecing a Quilt of Life
The women speak of their inspirations, insights into their creative processes,
and ways in which they have used art to discover, to heal, to share.
Through lectures and classes, Dottie shares their stories with people
interested in finding more meaningful ways to live.

Dottie says:
"Since 1980 I have been moving fabric around in my studio. I paint, cut,
arrange and rearrange pieces of cloth until images appear, then I quilt them.
Without the aid of patterns or sketches, I let my unconscious reign,
allowing my imagination the time it needs to express itself.
There is magic in this process of letting go of the 'shoulds' and 'oughts,'
and it gives me joy."
